Book Review: Ever Faithful to His Lead: My Journey Away From Emotional Abuse by Kathleen Pooler

Title: Ever Faithful to His Lead: My Journey Away From Emotional Abuse

Author: Kathleen Pooler

Publisher: Open Books Press

Genre: Memoir

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kathleen Pooler grew up watching her parents have a happy marriage and one day wanted to have the type of love they shared. But she soon realized life isn’t a fairy tale.

Ever Faithful to His Lead chronicles Pooler’s life growing up in a loving family, earning her nursing degree, and surviving two abusive marriages. Through her words, Pooler paints a picture of what it was like living in a house with an emotionally abusive husband. As you read her recollections of events, you feel the pain she went through, the red flags she ignored, and the courage it took for her to step up and leave her husbands.

What I loved most about Pooler’s book is how real it felt, I’ve read a couple of memoirs where the events seemed over the top and dramatic. With Pooler, it isn’t like that, her written account of events was candid and you could feel her emotions during those events.

Pooler’s story is one about strength, courage, self-discovery, and faith. It’s a book, I highly recommend for all women.
