Book Review: Killer Pursuit by Jeff Gunhus

Title: Killer Pursuit

Author: Jeff Gunhus

Genre: Suspense, Thriller

Publisher: Seven Guns Press

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*

This is the second book in the Allison McNeil series and even though it’s a sequel, I think the book can work as a standalone. Killer Pursuit follows FBI agent, Allison, as she’s investigates the case of Catherine Fews. When Catherine’s murdered, Allison’s on a mission to find her killer and videos, which will leave most of Washington’s politicians embroiled in a scandal. As Allison works the case, not only does she have to deal with finding the killer, but also her boss, Clarence Mason, who has ulterior motives when it comes to the case.

I loved how the author set the book in Washington and included political scandals as part of the plot; I thought it added excitement and intrigue to the story. The book was filled with lots of suspense and action, I kept wondering if Allison would capture the killer and solve the case.

I liked the character of Allison McNeil; I loved how she was a strong character and handled herself in a male-dominated profession. Yet, I also liked how Allison has a sensitive side and it shows as she remembers details of a painful past. Allison’s past is showcased more in the first book, but the author does give glimpses of what she went through. Reading about Allison makes me curious to read the first book in the series to learn more about her and her history.

I noticed there were a couple of grammar and spelling issues in the book that kind of bothered me. Also, another critique I had was the multiple POVs. I found at times, it got a bit confusing. One chapter would focus on Allison, then the next would be Mason, and then it would be Libby Ashworth or Summerhays.

Aside from that, it was a good, suspenseful thriller and I’m looking forward to reading more of these stories from the author.
